The sixth grade teachers at Lewisburg Middle School came to Hernando Middle in early December to collaboratively plan with the sixth grade teachers at Hernando Middle School.
The teachers from both schools spent time discussing the implementation of Common Core State Standards for Mathematics and the use of the new textbook, College Preparatory Mathematics. They discussed their classroom climate and how students worked together to solve math problems. Successes and areas of concern were shared to enhance teacher’s practices in developing students’ strategies and skills as they better math students. They also examined assessments they had developed to ensure that students are being held to similar levels of mastery and understanding of math concepts. They were able to share suggestions and provide support to one another to take back to their classrooms.
