Principal Spotlight: Nick Toungett

Written by: Nick Toungett, Principal Center Hill Middle School

My name is Nick Toungett and I am extremely excited about the opportunity to become principal at Center Hill Middle School.  CHMS has a wonderful staff and great students who are eager to learn.  I have a passion for young people and my goal is to positively impact the lives of the students at my school.  I am a product of DeSoto County Schools, graduating from Horn Lake High School in 1998.  Upon graduation, I attended Williams Baptist College where I was a member of the baseball team.  After receiving my Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education, I then joined the coaching staff of the baseball team at WBC for three years.  During this time, I obtained my Master of Education degree from William Woods University.  Upon returning to the area, I taught Science and PE at Horn Lake High School for three years and also served as the assistant baseball coach before becoming assistant principal, a position I held for four years.

My wife, Sarah and I have been happily married for eight years.  She is a native of Paragould, Arkansas, and also attended Williams Baptist College where she was on the women’s basketball team. We moved back to Desoto County so Sarah could attend the University of Tennessee Dental College.  Currently, she is a dental hygienist.  We have no children at present but look forward to raising a family in the DeSoto County area.

We both enjoy playing and watching all sports.  Attending college football games or professional baseball games is how we enjoy spending our spare time.  I personally am an avid hunter and fisherman.  My passion for young people and my lifelong love of sports has led me to coach a little league baseball team.

The lessons learned from playing sports, obtaining my degrees, teaching high school students, coaching at the high school and college level, and as administrator at HLHS, have all served to prepare me for the position of principal at Center Hill Middle.  I welcome the challenge of helping to guide our students in preparation for their future.
