Rocking in the Swamp

Every 9 weeks at Lake Cormorant Middle School, we have a different character theme.  The first 9 weeks theme was “Community”.  Our school slogan is,” We are a Gator family and community.” The importance of community is being emphasized even more through the Capturing Kids Hearts program we have implemented.  The program stresses that community is not only where you live but can also be a social, religious, occupational, or other group that shares common characteristics or interests.  Students of LCMS are encouraged to take part in extra-curricular activities whether at school, through their church, or many other civic organizations.    Actively working in their community is a key component of the Capturing Kids Hearts program.  We chose a school wide community service project with Heartland Hands, an outreach program in Southaven that assists needy families.  A toilet tissue drive was mounted to assist Heartland Hands with their community outreach. The people they serve were very grateful for our donation, and it gave our students the opportunity to give back to the community. At LCMS, we believe in R.O.C.K., which is being responsible, owning your behavior, showing cohesiveness, and being kind.  Living by these characteristics helps promotes a community mindset in our students.
